ASK4 is pleased to announce that its Chief Technology Officer and Product Director, Andy Davidson will be speaking at this year’s WiFi World Congress.
WiFi Now’s WiFi World Congress takes place between May 22-24 in Brighton and brings the world’s WiFi leaders together, this year with a special focus on innovation and opportunity. Andy will be speaking on Next generation services for MDUs on Day 3 conference at 11am and will be discussing ASK4’s membership of the Telecoms Infrastructure Project (TIP), who administer the OpenWiFi project.
What is OpenWiFi?
TIP OpenWiFi allows ASK4 to separate the supply of software and hardware in our WiFi Access Points. The software is an open source, community developed industry collaboration, and is designed, authored and tested by more than 100 organizations. These include leading service providers, access point hardware manufactures, silicon chip vendors and global household names such as Meta/Facebook. Working across the industry allows TIP and OpenWiFi to accelerate the pace of WiFi infrastructure innovation.
Following research and development, ASK4 has successfully installed the first UK deployment of OpenWiFi into a multi-tenant residence, highlighting ASK4's capability to innovate and deliver cutting edge solutions as a leading service provider.
What this means for our clients
The past two years have seen huge constraints placed on the global electronic component supply chain, affecting everything from cars to washing machines. This has also led to a shortage in availability of key equipment needed to deliver today’s WiFi networks. OpenWiFi will provide ASK4 with a common software infrastructure that can power a variety of different manufacturer access points, offering true global supply chain diversity. Any access point supporting OpenWiFi can be deployed offering seamless interoperability, providing service providers with true choice and flexibility in enterprise wireless infrastructure.
As the network operating system and platform is open, ASK4 will be able to develop and run sector specific, applications and enhancements on the WiFi access points. These will enable new capabilities within our award winning 4Network product, and will improve service assurance as we develop Apps that reside on the AP, measuring and responding to performance data.
