ASK4 kicked off its first ever multi-city gaming tournament across a number of ASK4-connected sites.
During November, ASK4 invited student residents located in Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham to take part in the FIFA 22 Tournament Sponsored by ASK4. Taking place over the course of a week, students matched up with each other across the ASK4 network to play FIFA 22 matches to compete for a grand prize of £500 and a PlayStation 5 console for a common area in their accommodation. The tournament was powered by specialist gaming events company Gfinity, hosted at ask4gaming.com, and was made possible thanks to our partners Ruckus and Virgin Media Business.

Around 100 players in more than 70 locations across the four cities joined the tournament with the final resulting in a local derby between Sheffield and Leeds. Tyler Carter, a West One Student Accommodation resident based in Sheffield, came out on top to claim first place, with Luke Stratton of Campus Living Villages winning a runner up prize of £150.

ASK4 found that gaming activity increased significantly during lockdown, particularly among the student cohort, with reasons for gaming including entertainment, socialising, and improving mental health. ASK4 wanted to promote and facilitate video gaming for our student residents in order to help deliver some of these benefits.
ASK4’s Digital and Content Marketing Manager, Adam Willerton, said:
“During lockdown, video gaming surged in popularity as people played games online as a way of keeping entertained and staying in touch with friends and family. We wanted to host our own gaming tournament as a way of connecting ASK4 residents, educating on the benefits that video gaming can offer and helping our clients to expand their social calendars. Launched alongside the Gaming for Good report, ASK4 hopes that the gaming tournament will encourage our clients to facilitate future gaming activities for their residents and help them to understand the popularity and importance of video gaming in their residents’ lives”.
Gaming For Good
Gaming for Good, the latest report in ASK4’s Connected Living series, focuses on the dramatic rise in popularity of video games during the pandemic, and the different benefits that gaming has provided to students during lockdown. Working with our partners, Red Brick Research, ASK4 conducted a survey of students across the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain about their gaming habits during the pandemic and how the effects of lockdown influenced the way they play.
